Tim Walz has made a career out of folksy deflection — the aw-shucks routine of a guy who just wants to coach football and serve his community. But when Rep. Jim Jordan got him under oath at a House hearing, the act crumbled in real time.
The subject: the Feeding Our Future scandal, a $300 million-plus federal fraud scheme that exploded on Walz’s watch as Governor of Minnesota. Over 70 individuals have been indicted for allegedly defrauding the Federal Child Nutrition Program. It is one of the largest pandemic-era fraud cases in American history.
‘Why Didn’t You Tell the Truth?’
Jordan’s questioning was surgical. He zeroed in on Walz’s repeated public claim that the state restarted payments to the fraud-riddled Feeding Our Future nonprofit because a court ordered it to do so. There was just one problem with that claim: it was false.
“Why didn’t you tell the truth about why you restarted the payments?” Jordan asked point-blank.
Walz tried his usual pivot — blaming COVID, talking about the program’s expansion, doing everything except answering the question. Jordan wasn’t having it.
“I didn’t ask that question. I said, ‘Why didn’t you tell the truth?'”
The Judge’s Rebuke
Jordan then produced the kill shot: a September 2022 press release from Judge John Guthmann’s court directly contradicting Walz’s claims. The judge’s statement was unambiguous — he never ordered the Department of Education to restart payments to Feeding Our Future. Walz’s public statements to the contrary were, in the judge’s words, false.
Walz’s response was a masterclass in political squirming. He claimed his “attorneys interpreted it differently.” Jordan pointed out that the rebuttal came from the court itself — not from news reports or partisan critics, but from the actual judge in the case.
“Well, somebody’s lying… you can’t say the court ordered you to restart the payments,” Jordan concluded.
The Bigger Picture
This is the same Tim Walz that Kamala Harris chose as her running mate in 2024. The same guy who was presented to America as a trustworthy, straight-shooting Midwestern governor. And here he is, unable to explain why he publicly lied about a judge’s ruling in a case involving hundreds of millions of dollars in stolen taxpayer money.
The Feeding Our Future scandal didn’t happen in a vacuum. It happened because government officials either failed to provide oversight or actively looked the other way while fraud was being committed on an industrial scale. Walz’s attempt to hide behind a nonexistent court order suggests the latter — and Jordan made sure the American public got to see Jazz Hands Tim try to dance his way out of it in real time.
